Have you ever wondered why I use glitter and so many sessions? The meaning behind it goes a lot deeper than just some pretty pictures. Read on to learn about my love of sparkles & the symbolism behind my madness. A little backstory; back in 2017 I had a session with two best friends that wanted to do something fun and creative with their session. They proposed the idea of a pillow fight with feathers but have any idea last minute left us with very little options in a small town to find a lot of feathers in such a short time. I’m very good at my job and last minute as I’m pondering what I can do I looked over on the counter and saw a bottle of glitter. The weekend prior I had held mini sessions for children that was glitter themed. It’s something I have become locally famous for was my use of glitter with children so I thought to myself why not. I asked the girls if they were down and their eyes absolutely sparkled with excitement. At first we were a little unsure of what to do and the direction we wanted to go. I did some safe poses with portraits and then one of the girls turned around and her butt was covered in gold glitter! I was shook at what I saw and all I could say to her was bend over on the bed, the rest was history! Fast forward to now and glitter has become one of my most requested accessories for boudoir sessions. It’s even so much that if you don’t up for glitter you will still leave with some sparkle attached to you somewhere because let’s face it there’s no way to actually get rid of glitter when you make the size of the messes that I do. A lot of people ask me “why glitter” and honestly it’s a lot more heartfelt for me nowadays than I think most people realize. When you are insecure about stretch marks or maybe the morning of your session you walk in and you have a zit on your butt cheek it can take away from the excitement. Glitter is a great way to cover things like that that you are insecure about and it allows you to sometimes wear a certain outfit that you would normally not think about. Maybe you’re wanting to wear a two-piece but you don’t like your belly or the way your back is in the pieces and glitter is a great way to kind of conceal certain things. Your self claimed “flaws” can be covered by just a dash of sparkle and it will definitely change the whole vibe. A lot of times client will tell me after their session with glitter of course that always makes a mess that’s to be expected and there’s no way around that. But the one thing that I love that people take away from this it was months after your session when you’ve gotten your pictures back and you’ve gotten the mess cleaned up, and you’re going about your life maybe you have a bad day. Let’s say you have a really bad mental health day and you’re not feeling very great about your body again, you start to wonder all those negative thoughts that all of us think. You’re standing in your bathroom looking in the mirror looking at your body from head to toe and then something catches your eye. It’s a little speck of glitter either on the counter or maybe on your face or on the floor. In that single speck of glitter it will take your mind back to the day of your session and remind you of how much fun you had and how amazing those pictures turned out. It’s going to be a small symbol to remind you of how beautiful and powerful and brave you are! The old saying goes “ she leaves a little bit of sparkle wherever she goes” and I take that saying full heartedly! Even if that little bit of sparkle takes you back to something that I said during your session clients will tell you that they cannot look at glitter and not think of me. They only remember the fun they had and the fun and encouraging things that I said during our session. If this is how I’m going to go down in history as the crazy awkward lady that throws glitter up your ass then I’ve made it in life. You may see the herpes of arts and crafts but when I look at glitter I think about all the lives I’ve changed!
